Ingrown-toenails are a long-lasting issue, and the disease is usually characterized with the nail growing below the skin. And while there are a number of ways this disease can be treated, including alternative and surgical methods, most of them cost a fortune and can bring a lot of discomfort and even pain prior and post procedure.
Fortunately, there is a lesser-known yet far more effective way in treating this condition using natural household remedies, and the best part of it is that they don’t cost a fortune and don’t cause any pain in the process.
The first step involves making your nails and skin tender with a nice warm bath. Before entering the water, fill the bathtub with 5 liters of warm water and add 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and feel free to add some salt as well. The water should be approximately 37oC. Once you soak in the bath for a period of time, try to remove the ingrown nail.
If you don’t feel like the first method is good enough, there is always another option. All you have to do is take a sticking plaster and place it over the ingrown toenail part. This will ease up the whole procedure as it will make the toenail reachable.
Once done, take a cotton ball and put it at a small distance between the skin and the nail using the tweezers, but be sure to apply some antibacterial cream such as iodine on the affected part before you do so. The cotton ball should be replaced every 24 hours, and the whole procedure lasts for about 15 days. After the given period of time, the nail should be back in its regular position.
If you have a hard time placing the cotton ball between the nail and the skin, mix 1 tablespoon of raw honey and 1minced garlic clove, and place it on the affected area. The combination is extremely powerful and contains potent antiseptic characteristics as well. It is extremely important to visit a doctor the next time you notice an infection on your toenails in order to prevent further complications.
